A research study conducted by University College London examined how poor oral health relates to negative athletic performance. High performance athletes have increased rates of tooth decay and gum disease, which in turn can affect their athletic abilities. Oral health tends to be the most overlooked by college athletes when compared to other physical pressures. When educated about proper oral health procedures, college athletes noted reduction in problems related with oral health and physical performance.
